The 2nd lockdown has hurt the M3s, who were starting to hit their rhythm in late October. Certainly the match vs St. Albans M7 revealed that the performance levels had dropped off.
It was a competitive, and sometimes fractious, match with many interruptions as the Umpires and players struggled to understand one another. Royston took the lead with their first proper attack of the match, with Mike Welding scoring at the far post from an excellent reverse stick cross by Alex Causton. Excellent defending kept St. Albans at bay until just before half time when they equalised through a goal mouth scramble. 1-1 at half time was fair.
The second half was all St. Albans, and despite further lectures to both sides from the Umpires, Royston performed manfully in keeping things level. Eventually St. Albans roofed the ball in to the net to take the lead and so it stayed to the end.
Royston M3 can hope to recapture the good short passing and flowing moves of October, and if they do then points await since most matches still left in the first half of the season are against sides below them in the league.
