Royston took a full squad to Bedford for a match which always has good respect and humour between the teams but which also often has a very competitive edge. This match proved no different. As is so often the case when playing Bedford at their home venue, there were a couple of less familiar faces, but Royston did a good job of getting down to business on the pitch. The first half was one of roughly even possession, but contained many, many chances created by Royston. Sadly, only one was converted, against Bedford scoring three times (from not many more opportunities).
The second half followed the same track as the first. Bedford remained very efficient in front of goal, whilst Royston remained profligate. The final score of 5-3 to Bedford was helped by 2 late Royston goals. It was a disappointing loss against a team very low in the league and against whom Royston expected to do better.
Royston now approach the last game of the season knowing that they will remain in league 7SW next year, but focused on winning the game against St. Albans 8s to finish the season well and record their highest points total for many years - which would be a very fair reflection on what has been a very good season and has included some significant advancements in style of play.
