A much improved performance against a Broxbourne side who were defensively structured. Royston started energetically and rediscovered their ability to pick passes well. This allowed dominance across the pitch as Broxbourne played with 2 sweepers and a 2 man attack. Royston used both sides of the pitch well and had many opportunities, one of which was converted by Alex Causton to bring a halftime scoreline of 1-0.
The second half started very brightly with a James Parsely goal after 90 seconds, and Royston pushed on from there. Many opportunities were created, but the Broxbourne keeper and defenders kept the ball out well. Broxbourne then pushed forward and put some pressure on Royston for a 10 minute period, but a second goal from Alex Causton disheartened the Broxbourne side further. Royston then hit the bar (Mike Hill) and missed a couple of excellent chances, before Colin Bateman scored the fourth to hammer Royston's position home.
The trick will be keeping that level of performance when we return in the new year.
