It can still be a good game without any goals

We arrived at the game with Royston on a winning streak and St Albans, after scoring for fun in the first half of the season having hit a slightly iffy patch with losses to the 7s (explain that one) and a draw with Potters. Royston had some notable omission (Mike x2 (getting married in hockey season???? and Alex(watching dancing)) but otherwise a strong team. We also decided to try a new diamond formation.
Match started well with both sides moving the ball well and threatening. St Albans probably had the better of open play but Royston had many more short corners. Unfortunately we just couldnt score from them (which is unlike us). To be fair their keeper played well (probably their MoM), their runners were quick and the goal line defenders did their job superbly.
Other notable events I can remember were as follows. Wobbly as usual managed to pull off a great but slightly unorthodox save. They scored from a short corner but it was rightly disallowed for not going outside the circle (rule 13.3 (k) if you are reading St Albans). They belatedly realised that you cant go through Roddi and I will remember their skipper's call of "You cant go through their centre back, you've got to go round him". Unfortunately its a long way round him lads. RvP was playing some great passes out to Ruan on the right but probably should realise that its actually a bad pass if to put it that far in front of a 50 something year old with a bad hip. Otherwise Ruan was playing fantastically and his opposite number couldnt do anything. Ollie J was playing his usual great stuff and went on one mesmerizing run down the left beating about 6 players before finally one of them got him. Jake at the top of the diamond was also playing some delightful hockey and combining well with Ollie. John, George and Finn were working hard in midfield and Jonny was his usual steady self.
And what else happened - oh Brumby threw up but then again he always does.
Overall a really good and enjoyable game played in good spirit. Very proud to be your skipper. MotM goes to the whole team and it was too good a game to have a DotD.
