Possibly the Greatest save ever seen.

Possibly the Greatest save ever seen; these were the words on the fan’s lips as Royston struggled to a draw against a far travelled Luton side.

Royston looked hot in the opening few minutes with some clinical passing up and down the right side. The boys in black started the game about as well as they could, with a well taken goal from Toby ‘Soft Hands’ Hall, after delicious service from the eminent Carl ‘Fox in The Box’ Taylor. Truly exceptional from the captain and his merry men.

Although, as brilliantly as Royston had started, Luton struck two devastating blows to Royston’s hopes of maintaining their undefeated streak. ‘It took us by surprise’ (the two goals) were the words from long standing goalkeeper John ‘Princess’ Gourd. In a post-match interview, the Royston keeper alluded to the shocking news heard pre-match, of an injury to beloved pet of club Legend Callum Weir. Gourd goes on to suggest that ‘the thought of that poor dog had clearly rocked us today defensively’ and noted that ‘everyone was concerned’ for the dog. The dog has since made a full recovery.

This aside, Royston struggled through to half time 2-1 down and with a near miss injury, via attempted murder from Miles ‘Power’ Jackson smacking the ball head height across the opposition D, in a display of some magnitude, much to the resentment of Carl Taylor who took the ball to the side of his head. After much bandying of words and suggestions at half time, Royston soon returned to the field of play to attempt to rescue the game.

At this time of need for Royston they required something… something extra from the team. And in a real stand up and be counted moment, the sensational striking duo of Carl and Soft Hands had another go at the Luton goal. With El Capitano himself slotting away from another delectable assist from Taylor, truly a wizard for a good pass.

Royston now had a bit between their teeth and, still reeling from the thoughts of injured puppies, Miles ‘Power’ Jackson saw a rising mist of anger towards an opponent from Luton and stroked him, hard, on the cheek. Luckily for Royston the umpires were unaware of the truly immense power in Jackson’s fingertips and nothing came of it in the end.

The game continued to be a struggle for Royston and in the dying embers of the game disaster struck as Royston found themselves at the wrong end of an overload, with Luton baring down on goal 2 on 2 with world class defender Pete (formerly) from Peterborough and, Man of the Match, John ‘Princess’ Gourd. Luton managed to slip the ball to the spare attacker on the back post, who was primed to strike it into the net, to end the hopes and dreams of Royston’s faithful fans. But just as all seemed lost, and as time stood still, the tremendous reflexes and cat like agility of Princess in the Royston goal were on display, as he leapt with all six foot four inches of his incredibly sculpted physique across the goal, and, with his stick hand outstretched, denied the goal from the Luton man with, what can only be described as possibly the greatest save ever seen by anyone… anywhere… period.

The game ended 2-2 With 2 goals from Toby ‘Soft Hands’ Hall and a man of the match performance from John ‘Princess’ Gourd.

Miles Jackson – DOTD (Sorry Millie, but it was attempted murder)

- John Gourd
