A deserved win that saw Royston continue their positive start to the season.

A dominant Royston 1s performance saw "club legend" Callum Weir roll back the years to grab a goal and assist in a 2-0 win.

Welwyn 1's had become a bit of a bogie team for Royston in recent seasons. Keen to change our fortunes, Toby Hall outlined a game plan that was executed almost perfectly.

Royston started brightly controlling the ball and not giving Welwyn a sniff. The pace and power of Royston's attack was a constant threat. The breakthrough came when Lyndon Farmer burst down the right-hand side cutting the ball back to Callum Wier who slotted the ball home.

Royston should have gone 2-0 up, but wrongly had a goal disallowed. Peter Fletcher fired the ball into the D and a smart defection from Carl Taylor saw the ball fly past the keeper. The umpire disallowed it for an own goal!

The final exchanges of the first half, however, saw Welwyn on the front foot. An attack down the right-hand side saw John Gourd forced to make a smart stop with his knee (he was only down for 5 minutes), only for the ball to flick into an attacker's face before he slotted it in. The goal wasn't given.

Into the second half and where once again, Royston had the front foot. A nice interchange of pacing saw Callum Wier open on the left-hand side. He played a simple ball to Lyndon who delicately flicked it home for 2-0. The bromance was growing.

As the half went on, it became more frantic as Royston struggled to control the game. Royston became sloppy and started dribbling with the ball. Welwyn were creating chances but the defence held firm, with each player putting in a solid performance.

Royston were a constant threat on the counter-attack and had another disallowed goal. The ball broke to Toby Hall in the D who controlled it with his left foot and passed it in with his right. After some time the umpire called a foot!

Overall it was a determined performance from Royston who remain unbeaten so far this season. Next up Cheshunt 1's.

MOTM - John Groud (despite saying defending starts from the front)
DOTD - Oliver "Chad" Jones (can't be late, I'm always late)
