Royston M1 XI (2) - (6) Cheshunt 1 XI

A dreary Royston were deservedly beaten after the wheels on the bandwagon finally fell off. With much of the squad still suffering from the ventures of the night before, The Crows were at least 10% off the pace as they were unable to cope with Cheshunts persistent aerial threat.

Royston started well at the off and managed to take an early lead as man of the match Oliver 'Chad' Jones was able to convert his driving run into an assist when his shot-cross picked out Carl Taylor at the back post, who was able to convert without trouble. The early energy quickly seeped out of Royston however as the fatigue from the night before set in, allowing Cheshunt to square the result up within minutes. Throughout, Royston were unable to contain the constant aerial threat down their left wing from the opposing full back and Cheshunt were able to fashion multiple goal scoring opportunities through this channel, converting 2 further chances before half time.

Despite Royston looking very lacklustre all over, they were able to create some good opportunities against the run of play and could have bagged a couple more during the first half if they had sharpened up, however it wasn't to be as they went into the break 3-1 down.

The second half turned into a near clone of the first. Royston scored early after Toby Hall managed to latch onto some miscontrol by the Cheshunt centre back before squaring to the unmarked Robert Brumby who was able to convert. However, Royston were unable to maintain the momentum that this created and quickly found themselves under siege once more. Cheshunt, looking much the side they were expected to be, maintained their clinical edge and notched 3 more goals to kill any hope of a Royston come back.

A lethargic performance under poor conditions. Royston will look to bounce back away at Bedford next week.
