Royston travelled (not too far) to Letchworth this week with one eye on maintaining their lead on the league. The game was set for a Royston player to step up and perform, a player to take the game to Letchworth, a player like ‘Superdan’ Dan Minion! With an exemplary performance at right back he rightfully earned his place as the MotM. Solid defensively and aggressive on the break, much of Royston’s constructive play down the right was started by Superdan combined with the rest of the team’s top performance levels meant Letchworth were no match.
The game never seemed in doubt with Royston opening the scoring after 5 mins with Carl ‘The Daddy’ Taylor (maybe, ever so slightly, probably for sure a back stick!?). Royston, however, were held under the cosh by Letchworth towards the end of the half. The focus on securing the teams 4th consecutive clean sheet on their minds the defence stayed solid ‘til the end of the first half. This, coupled with strong character and resilience, gave Royston the platform to charge on with a further two goals from Toby hall on the 43rd and Lyndon Farmer on the 58th respectfully. The later possibly being the only hit at goal I’ve ever seen Lyndon score!
Royston end today with a 78.9%-win rate with 52.6% of games resulting in a clean sheet. On average they concede 0.68 goals per game and score a whopping 3.6 goals per game. Truly exceptional stats from the boys!
MotM – Superdan
DotD – Miles (why’d you hit the ball away?)
