2-0 win for Royston against St Albans…

Well, I’m going to get this out of the way now… I am the greatest goalkeeper of all time, like ever. This dear reader may be a vacuous lie told to comfort my own ever inflating ego. But for a fraction of a second, after the bewilderment of moving off pure instinct, I found myself flying across the goal. I will set the scene (strap in this is going to be a long-winded paragraph about how amazing I am and quite possibly how gorgeous I look).

A tense game on a cool February morning. A hint of dew caresses the width and breadth of the pitch. The sun dazzles a glorious beam of light intermittently between flecks of cool grey clouds. Royston are in the game of their lives. It’s still the first half. St Albans are aggressive on their pressing, but their real danger comes from a relentlessly skilful young player who boldly attacks the left side of Royston’s half. He initially appeared to be no match for the cool, calm and collected defending of Peter ‘Tommo’ Thomas. However, the daring starlet danced his way past the skilful defender and broke the Royston D and, with ball juggling in the air, he lasered a strike seemingly destined to strike the inside of the net. That is until our hero in goal stepped forth and flung majestically across the goalmouth, like a sort of majestic flying gorilla saving a smaller gorilla, possibly falling out of a tree… my knowledge of gorillas is poor. Probably should have gone with some sort of bird or something. Anyways, the long and short is I did a hockey and the ball was padded wide with the tip of an outstretched keeper stick. Bloody marvellous.

Anyways there’s not a lot of space to write about Carl ‘Big Daddy’ Taylor’s goals which I’m sure he will be thrilled about. I’m sure the race for top scorer and the bragging rights it brings will soon start to come full focus for the remainder of our ties.
