The Boys Are Back!

The pinnacle of athleticism at Royston Hockey Club – is the tag line of the Men’s 1st XI and boy was it rightfully shown today!

Royston came into this one after a bitter 2-1 loss to a youthful St Albans side and looked to bounce back as soon as possible. This was made possible with a flurry of goals from Sebastian ‘Beauty’ Miles Toby ‘The Professor’ Hall and L ‘Name Redacted’ Farmer in the 7th 9th and 15th minute of play respectively. This seemed to set the tone of the match for Royston as ‘Troy’ rounded off the half with a sumptuous finish that capped off another strong midfield display.

However, Royston knew that in this game the score line would have to be upped, with the looming possibility of the top of the league being settled on goal difference. With the opposition only being able to field a bare 11 the wily Boys in Black discussed tactics at half time to best try to undo this Stevenage team.

And with that in mind the second half started much like the first as Carl ‘The Cat’ Taylor started the boys off! And then, in the most seemingly of unusual places, Miles ‘God-Bod’ Jackson hit in an astute finish against a relatively strong goalkeeper. There was undeniable screams of joy and rapturous applause inside Miles’ head, everyone else seemed to stare in disbelief… It is now the time that I’d like to coin a new phrase; If Miles is scoring, then it’s over.

L ‘Name Redacted’ Farmer started to round off his MotM performance with another goal from a short corner. It’s been noted that injury list legend Pete ‘One Less Working Thumb’ Thomas, will have a lot to do on his inevitable return to the pitch as there is solid competition for the Royston drag flick team. In truth if Both L ‘Name Redacted’ Farmer and Pete ‘One Less Working Thumb’ Thomas teams just won’t stand a chance!

With an OG scoring the 8th and with Toby ‘The Professor’ Hall rounding off the game with Royston’s 9th, the boys go into this weekends tie with Southgate Adelaide looking to extend their lead at the top of the table.
