Even without their fearless captain, the boys in black were led magnificently by the goal scoring prowess of MotM Sam ‘Sebastian’ Miles, who netted 3 of the best against a youthful and exuberant Bishops Stortford side. Truly the Crows were flying with all their dominance coming from instinctual passing play right through the heart of the team, bolstered in part by the return of the mighty holding midfield player Robert Woodhouse; a man whose presence in the position has been missed when unavailable.
Royston’s own youthful players also took hold of the game with Toby ‘Troy’ London bagging a brace with a good goal and a rather clinical penalty flick. It was a good game for the spectator as Bishops Stortford, not to be outdone, put two goals past the undeniably flexible netminder John ‘Princess’ Gourd. Gourd suffered one of the more embarrassing stats as a goalkeeper having only touched the ball once in active play, with even his cat like reflexes not helping him with either of Stortford’s goals.
As always to be expected from a recently relegated team however, Royston looked comfortable in this game displaying the quality that oh so nearly kept them up last season. Onwards and upwards, Royston Men’s 1st XI have started their challenge for the title in earnest.
Lyndon scored too.
