Royston entered the game against S&S feeling positive, and that reflected in their play. Injuries meant a slight shuffle of positions, but the team responded well. The scoring was opened by Mike Welding with a superb strike from the edge of the D, and Alex Causton scrambled the ball home from a short corner to provide a 2-0 half time lead. It could have been more had Royston been more efficient in front of goal.
Royston kept the high pace of play in the second half and good short passing and link play lead to two further goals. James Watson's solo effort was particularly notable, and Alex Causton scored the other. Disappointingly, a goal was disallowed due to the ball not leaving the D from the short corner. Indeed, the scoreline could have been greater since Royston created more chances in the second half than the first. S&S pushed to the last and the Royston defence was solid throughout the game, with S&S only really threatening the goal in the last 10 minutes when they threw caution to the wind. Tim Cheeseright had a particularly good game supporting the front line and took MotM plaudits. The next 3 games offer potential for more good results, and the onus is on Royston to maintain their good standards.
