Royston M3s v Hertford 4s

Following a good win against Berkhamsted, Royston M3s started the game against Hertford with good confidence. The first half was yet again full of excellent passing, movement both on and off the ball, and composure. Incisive attacks were frequent and it would not be wrong to say Royston dominated the first half. Royston failed, however, to turn that dominance into goals, and a half time score line of 1-0 to Royston bore no relation to the number of opportunities created.

The second half was different. Hertford came out strong and made greater use of their high CF and support runners from midfield. At the same time, Royston fell away from their short passing, giving the ball away too easily. Hertford scored 3 goals relatively quickly towards the end of the match, leaving Royston ruefully contemplating too many misses in the first half and the early part of the second half.

The match was played in good spirit, and there were positives to be taken in to the match v St. Albans 7s on October 26th. This remains a very positive start to the season, and the fixture list has Royston M3s playing many of the stronger sides early in the match rotation, so the prospect of future good results remains strong.
