The Ladies play in the 5 Counties Leagues
The Royston Hockey Ladies Section was formed back in 1975, and has grown to having three full senior teams and a Juniors side. The senior teams all play in the 5 Counties Women's League. Games are played on Saturdays, and occasionally on Sundays when the 1st team are involved in the England Hockey knockout competition. The juniors have mixed training on Sunday mornings, with occasional games throughout the season.
The Ladies 1st Team have had another fantastic season, finishing as Runners Up in their first season back in the Premier Division. Interestingly, the two sides that were promoted up into Prem for 2010/11 were the two sides who finished up first and second in the league. It just goes to show how motivated they were to produce such good results.
The whole team played some really good hockey throughout the season, and despite missing two key players for the first half of the season, showed strong form, winning 9 of their 18 games, drawing 5, only losing 4 and scoring a total of 43 goals. The target for the next season will be to maintain their dominance in that league, introduce some new younger players into the squad, and push for the championship in 2011/12 and further promotion.
The Ladies 2nd Team had another very hard fought season in Division 2, finishing a very respectable 5th in the table. They won 6 of their 18 games, with 5 draws and 7 losses, scoring 32 goals. With several players again been pulled up on occasion into the first team, the 2nds did well to keep their momentum and structure and should be well placed in the coming season to push for higher honours.
The Ladies 3rd Team have again managed to remain in Division 6 (just!), despite another tough season. They finished 5th in their league and have throughout the season developed well as a side winning several games. The younger players have come into the side very well and they are starting to develop a good understanding of each others play and should do well in the coming season. Well done....
