Royston Hockey Club

Vice-Presidents Day made a welcomed return this year, with a day of good hockey and friendship held at the Meridian astro and then back at the Heath Club.

The event started off with the youngsters displaying their skills in a very well played game, followed by the presentation of the StickSkills award certificates to all players, and the trophies for the three main age groups. This was followed by a game between the Men's 5th XI and a combined 3rd/4th XI team. The young lads in the 5th XI put on a great show, and if it wasn't for the 'ringers' in the opposition team may have come away with the win! But it was a great game and clearly showed off the future 1st team talent in action.

The final game of the day saw a combined Men's 1s / Ladies 2s take on the Ladies 1s / Men's 2s. It was a hotly contested game with some really good hockey being displayed. For some it was their first exposure to the long 3G astro at the Meridian, and it clearly showed that the basic skills of the youngsters are better than some of the senior players on that surface. But hey, skills training starts soon, so don't feel bad!!

Then it was back to the Heath Sports club for the traditional VP's buffet and drinks. A great time for old friends to catch up, and a fitting end to another really good day for the club.

                 

As always we must thank the Vice-presidents for the very generous contribution they make to the club, both in the giving of their vast experience as well as their financial donations. The monies from the VPs goes towards the development of our Juniors, and testament to this development is finding players that have come through from our Junior section now playing in both the top Mens and Ladies teams.
